The Story:

In 2005 HC. Andersen (born 200 years earlier) was celebrated all over and Janet wanted to contribute to this by making an experimental version of “The Ugly Duckling” – set in a lawyers’ office! The acting style and movement were to be derived from the area of dance which Janet undoubtedly knows well and loves. The first time I met up with her was at a dance school where she tried to show me what she had in mind in terms of how the film should be shot. After a while of me making rolls and wavey movements of the body, I told her that with the cameras we were to use a lot of this simply would be impossible to do, but assured her that I would shoot it (for free), cause the idea and set up were so screwed up – or to put it differently, the whole thing was so delightfully innocent of the (more often than not) limiting knowledge of how (illusionistic) films should look like...

Anyways, I turned up with Andrea & Jesper, and it was great fun. We got to try out the most unusual angles (and lenses) and overall had a laugh. The actor was simply superb and had a level of energy that would put Bubber to shame.

Of course 2005 turned into 2006 and 2007 before we got a chance to see the final film. And what a great feeling that for once somebody that you believe in actually goes all in and makes something that far surpasses your expectations (first time for me anyway). The final film is as weird as anything I’ve seen – my compliments to the editor and everyone else involved in the post production. This film is truly out there and I can't help but wonder how much of it
corresponds to Janet’s original vision...
